In Misrata & all is well.  This little girl was super cute.  Her dad put her in my arms.  Yes, I am an awkward holder of children but she was HEAVY.  The peace sign she is doing is the rebel sign for victory.  So frickin adorbs.  Also you will appreciate the fact that I was driving around Misrata with a driver who loves Ke$ha.  More on that soon.

We saw this guy in the 14th street F station yesterday.  When we arrived he was playing Mad World by Tears for Fears and then as we were hopping on the train, he started playing the Super Mario Brothers theme song.  Awesome.  He has a fan page on Facebook, a Twitter account and countless videos on Youtube.  In a video interview, he claimed that he actually makes his rent by performing as a street musician.  He also said that he definitely makes more money when he wears the Boba Fett helmut. Renegade Accordion Sign

He has a Masters degree in engineering from Columbia and can’t find work in engineering.  Crazy.  I have to say – he seems to be getting a lot of positive attention doing this!  It’s pretty badass if you ask me.  It just goes to show you that attitude and creativity (and taking chances) can lead you in all sorts of directions… even when things aren’t working out as you originally planned.

Fun.

Meanwhile, I came across an interesting question yesterday and wanted to share:

“If you could master any skill instantly, what would it be?”

Hmmmmmm.  I’ll let you know my answer tomorrow.  What would you choose?

Every time I hear this song (Baba Hanuman by Krishna Das), I am transported back to one of the most pivotal moments of my life - lying in the dark in Baptiste Level One Training, feeling the egg shell of my life cracking and finally giving way to me making a choice to live a life that is wonderful.  

Today I watched Krishna Das himself from about 15 feet away, playing this song as a surprise performance for basic teacher training (we snuck him in during savasana).  

Try this - turn off your cell phone (the hardest part, right?), lie down, close your eyes, and listen to this song with an open mind - and by "open" I mean open to the fact that you are 100% capable of changing the course of human events on the planet.  

Life is a gift, people.  Live it wonderfully, OK?

Gnocchi
In an hour I went from hungry to gnocchi from scratch with a little help fromy friends Mark & Marcella.  I haven't mastered the 'shaping' yet (a few were good though), so that's next on the list.  I was really surprised to see how much 1lb of potatoes makes (let's just say your favorite restaurant charging $14+ for gnocchi is making a killing on it).

Just one more thing to add to my list, "WHY I WORK FROM HOME."
